Smart solutions are those realistic ideas that impact and strengthen the city’s governance or its physical, social, or economic infrastructure. As environmentally conscious netizens, plan your cities for the future and ensure to make them environmentally sustainable and economically viable.

Pick one of three new city suggestions (hypothetically) proposed for the Smart Cities mission. Identify ‘Specific smart technologically rich ideas that will empower citizens to not only co-create the new cities and transform the existing ones but also demand better governance, reliable and high quality public utilities and services.’

Recommend a robust and practical methodology to establish an ecosystem that will become the breeding ground for developing innovative and integrated system not only for India but also for export to the outside world.

  • Round 1 (Pre-Vista Prelims)

    • Round 1 is an elimination round.
    • Participants are required to email a word document of not more than 3 pages (+Introduction page, mentioning college/university name, names of team members, and the chosen city; +1 page for any annexures/supporting documents) outlining their proposal for the smart city plan.
    • The smart city plan should also include an approximate cost estimate of implementing the proposed solutions/infrastructural developments and the timeframe for developing/installing the suggested infrastructure.
    • The problem statement can be accessed under the Prelims Tab only after you have successfully registered for the event.
    • Participants are not required to create an index page. Participants can add a maximum of 1 page of annexures/supporting documents over and above the 3 page limit. In no way, should the 3 page limit be violated.
    • The results of this round will be announced on 11th September, 2017.
    • 6 teams will be shortlisted for the finals.
  • Round 2 (On-campus Finals)

    • The shortlisted teams can work further on their solution & make minor modifications/refinements in the previously submitted proposals.
    • The final solution will be a max presentation of not more than 15 slides. A copy of the same needs to be submitted via email by 23:59:59 hours, 20th September 2017.
    • The teams would be invited to make a presentation during Vista to an elite panel of judges.
    • The teams would be allowed 10 minutes for presentation, followed by 4 minutes of Q&A from the judges.
    • Teams will be evaluated on the technical feasibility and implementation viability of their proposed plans.
    • The participants will need to focus on the long-term sustainability and are expected to factor in the environmental impact of their decisions.
  • The event is open to both undergraduate & postgraduate students and corporate participants.
  • Each team can have minimum 2 and maximum 3 members.
  • Multiple teams from the same college & corporates are allowed.
  • Participants need not belong to the same institute or corporate to participate together as a team.
  • A participant cannot be part of more than one team.
  • Teams with members going on exchange are welcome to participate as long as there are 2 team members available during Vista.
  • Atleast two members from each team need to be present at the event venue to participate in the simulation game.
